Employees who work in the office and in the field such as the skilled trades, have different demands placed on their bodies; and therefore, are exposed to hazards that proposed illness or injury.

Office Employees: These types of workers spend most of their day performing activities such as sitting for prolong periods of time; computer usage; and other repetitive movements such as lifting, typing, reaching, pulling, bending, stop and kneeling). The above activities place the office worker at risk for – neck, back, shoulder, wrist, and hand injuries; as well as other types of injurie such a Carpel Tunnel Syndrome.

Skilled Labor Employees: Unlike office workers, skilled labor workers such as those in the construction and transportation industries, may spend their hours driving, getting in/out of vehicles, performing repetitive tasks with a load, such as lifting, pulling, pushing, and carrying); operating heavy machinery and equipment. They also perform some tasks that require awkward body positioning. These activities place the skilled labor worker at risk for injuries to the spine (e.g., neck and back); and both upper and lower extremities (e.g., shoulder, elbow, wrist, hand, hip, knee, foot, and ankle). In addition, they are more likely to experience radicular pain such as sciatica (pain in the legs).

Since employees utilize their back muscles to engage in various body positioning, if they experience body injury to the back, neck, or other body region. In addition, injured workers are more likely to take off work. A work injury, if not treated properly, can lead to call-outs, missed days, excessive sick leave usage, decrease in work performance, disability, and more!

Chiropractors are well known for successfully treating back pain, as well as other joint-related injuries. Most job-related injuries can be prevented when employees are educated, trained, and experienced; therefore, those who are often at risk for injury are new employees and inexperienced workers.

HLC Health and Safety for the Workplace program can assist your company in treating your injured workers, we also help to educate and train them on how to eliminate hazards that expose those risks, and train them on proper ergonomics for their job tasks.
