5 Reasons Why You Should Consider Chiropractic Care

Have you been contemplating chiropractic care? Are you curious to discover how chiropractic care can help your back pain?

  1. Mobilization of the joint.

When there is an injury to the joints, the joints oftentimes will become restricted due to the presence of inflammation and the formation of scar tissue. The chiropractic adjustments provide a passive force to the joints thereby mobilizing the joint.

2. Break up adhesive scar tissue.

During the reconstruction phase of soft tissue healing, the body lays down new cartilage tissue called scar tissue. Scar tissue is not like normal tissue. it is disorganized, less tensile, and weaker. When an outside force is placed on the scar tissue either through movement whether direct (e.g., such as massage), or passively (e.g., exercise, stretching, or spinal adjustments), the scar tissue is disrupted and stretched.

3. Reduce inflammation

As the joints move better, the movement naturally “pumps” and moves inflammation out of the area. Inflammation is considered one of the root causes of most diseases, therefore, removing inflammation, allows the body to continue to naturally heal and move through the various phases of tissue healing and repair.

4. Alleviate pain.

As inflammation is removed from the area, the pain receptors (e.g., nociceptors) become less irritated. In the absence of inflammation, there is often no pain perceived.

5. Improve muscle balance.

When inflammation is present, the pain receptors become overstimulated. The overstimulation of these sensory nerves sends a signal to the brain that “the body is damaged or injured” as a result, the brain will respond by contracting the skeletal muscles (e.g., neck muscles, back muscles, etc.) This results in abnormal muscle balance, while one region of muscles is contracted or spasms, it overpowers the others, thereby causing malposition of the joints (e.g., vertebral joints) and/or abnormal postural positions (e.g., bending forward or slouching). Therefore, when the spinal adjustments are performed, inflammation is “pumped” out of the area, and the nerves become less irritated thus causing the muscles to relax and become of normal tension; thereby, restoring and/or improving muscle balance.
