Pain Relief Creams – Topical Analgesics

Dr. Butler will often use and recommend topical analgesics (or pain-relief creams, sprays, gels, and/or patches) to her patients. Topical analgesic creams can provide temporary pain relief for patients before, during, and after their office visits. The use of topical analgesic products is not meant to replace chiropractic care and/or injury therapy. Follow the instructions of your chiropractor or what is recommended on the product label.

ElectroTherapy

ElectroTherapy can be effective in relieving muscle tightness, muscle tension, and muscle spasms. The use of electrotherapy products is not meant to replace chiropractic care. Follow the instructions of your chiropractor or what is recommended on the product label.

Pillows

Cervical/Neck Pillow – is used to support the head and spine while sleeping. During sleep, the spine should remain in a neutral position to alleviate unnecessary stress or strain on the soft tissue structure and to reduce pain or discomfort while sleeping and/or in the morning. If you experience neck pain in the morning, and/or your neck pain is worse in the morning, you may want to consider purchasing a cervical/neck pillow that provides this type of support. The use of pillows is not meant to replace chiropractic care and/or therapy. Follow the instructions of your chiropractor or what is recommended on the product label.

Cold & Hot Packs

Cold Therapy: Applying an ice pad/pack to an area that is tender or sore to the touch can help to reduce inflammation and swelling in the area, which can cause pain. Cold causes vasoconstriction (decrease in blood flow to the area) and muscle tightness, this helps to reduce inflammation and swelling at the site of injury. Ice is best used within 72 hours of an initial injury, however, it can be utilized throughout your healing and recovery process as a pain-relief source. The use of cold or ice pad/pack products is not meant to replace chiropractic care.  Follow the instructions of your chiropractor or what is recommended on the product label.

Hot Therapy: Applying a hot/heating pad/pack to the injured area causes vasodilation (increase in blood flow to the area). The increase in blood flow brings healing properties to the injured area and thereby promotes healing and recovery of the tissues, in addition, an increase in temperature, reduces muscle tightness, muscle tension, and muscle spasm thereby causing the muscles to relax which allows an increase in mobility and range of motion; and less pain. The use of hot or heating pad/pack products is not meant to replace chiropractic care. Follow the instructions of your chiropractor or what is recommended on the product label.

Braces

Braces can provide support to the injured area by reducing mobility. Sometimes, you may need additional outside support, such as a brace, to prevent your condition from worsening while you are healing and recovering from your injuries. The use of brace(s) products is not meant to replace chiropractic care and/or therapy. Follow the instructions of your chiropractor or what is recommended on the product label.

Home Massagers

Electrical massagers are great for the person who does not have time to get a massage from a licensed professional, or who likes to do things on their own. Massages are effective in reducing muscle tightness without fatiguing your hands. Massages help to increase blood flow which helps with the healing and recovery process. The use of massage services and/or devices is not meant to replace chiropractic care and/or therapy. Follow the instructions of your chiropractor or what is recommended on the product label.

Kinesiotape or Sports Tape

Kinesiotape can act similar to a brace, in that it can provide support to the tissues while you are healing and recovering; however, unlike braces, it does not restrict or limit the range of motion. The use of kinesiology tape (or sports tape) products is not meant to replace chiropractic care and/or therapy. Follow the instructions of your chiropractor or what is recommended on the product label.
