Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

What is chiropractic care? Chiropractic care is a form of healthcare that helps to restore, maintain, and/or improve a person’s health through spinal adjustments.

What is a spinal adjustment? A spinal adjustment is a quick thrust applied to the spinal joints by a licensed board-certified Doctor of Chiropractic. The spinal adjustment should only be performed a chiropractor.

What is the sound heard doing the spinal adjustment? Sometimes patients may hear a sound, such as a “popping” or “cracking”. This sound is a result of the joint capsules being stretched and the release of gas. The sound is very similar to what is heard when you “crack” your knuckles. Chiropractors do not crack bones (this is called a fracture). Chiropractors adjust the joints. In other words, chiropractors perform spinal adjustments to help restore normal joint biomechanics (or positioning).

Can I take my child(ren) to see a chiropractor if they are experiencing neck or back pain? Yes, you can take your child(ren) to see a chiropractor for a chiropractic examination. Like adult patients, chiropractors perform a medical history review and physical examination to determine if your child complaints can benefit from chiropractic care or not. Since many things can cause neck and back pain, having your child(ren) to see a chiropractor will get them on the path to determining what’s the best possible healthcare solution for their complaint(s).

Why do I have to keep coming to the chiropractor? A good chiropractor will determine what is the best treatment plan for you. Although most patients who see a chiropractor have similar complaints, everyone is unique and different. With, your treatment plan should be tailored to fit your individual needs. The frequency of visits should be determined during your first visit with the chiropractor.

Can chiropractic care help me with injuries from a car accident or whiplash injuries? Most car accident injuries are a result of injuries to the soft tissue structures, such as the muscles, ligaments, and tendons. In addition to providing chiropractic care in the form of spinal adjustments, a chiropractor can use other therapeutic treatment procedures to help you recover from your car accident injuries or whiplash injuries. FYI: Early intervention after an injury can make the difference from your injuries becoming chronic and/or debilitating.

Can my grandma or grandfather see a chiropractor? Yes. Chiropractic care can be beneficial for people of all ages, from the newborn to the flourishing senior citizen. In fact, chiropractic care can help improve posture, balance and coordination which can help reduce the risk of falling in the aging population.
