Is Chiropractic Care for Everyone?

The age-old question, “Is chiropractic care for everyone?” The short answer, yes. Here’s why. Like medicine and dentistry, chiropractic care has its role in the healthcare system. Whether you go to a chiropractor or not. Whether you like chiropractic care or not. It really doesn’t matter. What matters is, chiropractic care has been proven through numerous research articles and clinical studies, that it is an effective form of healthcare services that has positive patient outcomes.

While many patients have their own expectations when going to a chiropractor, there are factors that may influence how a patient responds to traditional chiropractic care, such as the skill of the chiropractor, the type of services provided, patient health, and patient compliance. Let’s take a deeper dive.

The Skill Level of the Chiropractor Matters.

Like a professional athlete, a rookie is not going to be on the same skill level as a veteran of the sport. It doesn’t mean the rookie can’t get the job done. It simply means the veteran may get the job done more effectively and efficiently because of experience and education. The more experienced and educated a chiropractor is in their craft, the more confident they are in providing services to patients. If you are not getting the results you want from your current chiropractor, it may be time to find a new one. Don’t give up chiropractic just yet 🙂

The Type of Services Your Receive from the Chiropractor is Important.

Every good chiropractor will perform a thorough patient medical history and physical examination prior to providing the patient with care. The purpose of the first chiropractic visit is to determine the cause of the patient’s pain and to create a working diagnosis. The patient’s medical history and diagnoses, will often determine what type of services the patient receives. Chiropractic care should never be cookie-cutter. In other words, while some patients may have similar conditions, they should not receive the exact care. Patient care should be individualized based on the patient’s medical history, current presentation, and lifestyle.

A patient’s current health can influence how well the patient responds to chiropractic care.

Patients who do not have pre-existing health conditions, those who are not taking medication(s), and those who have an active lifestyle, often respond positively to chiropractic care. Whereas patients who have chronic health conditions such as hypertension, diabetes, and joint pain may have a slower response to care. Healthy people tend to recover from injury sooner than those who are “unhealthy.”

You have to show up for care to receive it. Patient compliance is essential to patient outcomes.

Patient complaincy is more than just showing up for your chiropractic appointments. It also includes, 1)receiving the treatment procedures recommended by the chiropractor, ) making positive health choices that will support your recovery, and 3) fulfilling any referral given. The doctor and patient have a shared responsibility regarding the patient healthcare, each person has to do their part, the doctor provides the services, education, and guidance; and the patient work collarboately with the doctor to reach a common goal.
