What would you like to resolve this year?

Are you one of the millions of people who write new year’s resolutions? Do you make plans, and then don’t follow through? Well, maybe you have to change how you approach the new year and your goals. If you have spent year after year writing the same goals, but fail to reach them, then there is a problem that you may or may not be aware of.
Before you write your goals for the new year, think about what you really want. I mean, think about it. Do you really want to lose weight? Do you really want to save money? Do you really want to travel more? Do you really want to spend more time with your family and friends? The truth is…. only you know what you really want and desire. Just because a goal is popular, doesn’t mean a particular goal should be a goal for you.
Resolution Hack
This week, find a quiet place, where you can be alone without distractions. Take out a sheet of paper and writing utensil (e.g. pen, pencil, marker, etc.) On the top of the page write, “What do I really want?” Close your eyes. Take 10-20 deep breaths, and listen for the response. You may get a response right away, and you may not. The key is to take a moment, to go deep within yourself, without the influence of others, to discover what it is that you really want. Repeat this exercise, if you didn’t get a response yet. Once you know what you want you can then begin the other steps:
- Discover what you want
- Make a plan
- What resources do you need (e.g. people, money, etc)
- Get support (e.g. friends, family, co-workers, professionals, etc.)
- Start working your plan
